The most that they’re getting as far as treatment goes is hormone blockers, and the Dogs Make Me Happy Humans Make My Head Hurt Dogs T-Shirt in addition I really love this only thing you need to reverse those is to stop taking them. You would be incorrect. If someone can’t legally consent to sex with an adult due to their age then logically they can’t consent to gender reassignment surgery. Then they also couldn’t consent to any surgery… I had surgery for a herniated testicle when I was a very young child, should I have not been able to have that? Exactly. Voluntary surgery that is not necessary for one’s physical health is not something a child can consent too. [Except for the fact that HRT and SRS are often medically necessary in order to treat a person’s Gender Dysphoria.]( In the same way, that surgery was medically necessary in order to treat my herniated testicle. For some patients surgery isn’t necessary, for others it is, and different patients require different courses of treatment. [The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as ‘a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’.]( Again: your line of thinking here prevents children from getting any surgery, for reasons that are entirely arbitrary.

Gender dysphoria is a medical condition, and just like any other medical condition: If the Dogs Make Me Happy Humans Make My Head Hurt Dogs T-Shirt in addition I really love this patient and their doctor/ medical professional reach a decision on a course of treatment then that is between them. Your initial comment was that no one is arguing or advocating for children to have gender reassignment surgery. The “hormone therapy” you’re hearing about is puberty blockers, which are also given to cisgengered (non-trans) kids as well, if they start puberty early. Puberty blockers have not been shown to have any significant long-term effects, least of all negative effects. They’re used for treatment of trans kids to keep them from going through puberty as the wrong gender, which is harder to medically transition after. If they decide later to continue puberty as the gender they were assigned at birth, they can do so with no problems, or they can further medically transition if they choose to do so after becoming adults. HRT (hormone replacement therapy) is rare in minors, but not totally unheard of. Sometimes it’s given to cis kids as well, if their bodies don’t produce enough hormones without supplements. Being very rare is also true for gender confirmation surgery (previously called reassignment). Most surgeries performed on minors’ genitals are actually performed on intersex babies shortly after birth, occasionally even without the knowlege or consent of the parents.
