For me, the Detroit Tigers Skubal Spring Shirt but in fact I love this thing that finally got me to realise what was really going on was having a chat with a trans guy and realising we felt exactly the same about our respective experiences going through puberty the first time despite, y’know, we both would have preferred to get what the other had to go through, good and bad, and then after that doing a little thought experiment where I just kind of…mentally tried on being a cis man, nonbinary, or a trans woman. I sat down and let myself think, “Okay, I’m not trans. I’m a cis guy. What does my life look like from now on, then?” – and I thought through what I’d need to deal with, especially the downsides that would come with just being a cis guy. The important thing was that I didn’t just ask, “What if I’m cis?” – I sort of just let myself think, “I am cis, now what?” for a few minutes and really pay attention to how it felt thinking about all the things I’d have to deal with from now on. Then I tried the same thing with, “I am nonbinary,” and, “I am a trans woman,” and again that included a lot of thinking about the downsides not only of being a woman or nonbinary but being trans on top of that. At the end of it even though I would objectively have to deal with a lot more problems as a trans woman than a cis man, those somehow felt like they were my problems to deal with. Being a woman felt like it fit in a way that being a man or being nonbinary just didn’t.

I used to feel the Detroit Tigers Skubal Spring Shirt but in fact I love this same frustration as OP, but the older I get, the less people try to tell me how I should be based on my gender and the less I care for the people that try to. I feel like a lot of non-binary people, but specially women who identify as non-binary, are actually just frustrated from all this gendered bs. Because the universe of what is considered feminine is so restrictive. Like, pink is for girls, every other color is for boys. Girls like dolls and playing house, every other toy and game is for boys. Girls look like this, girls behave like that. When you see you don’t conform to such a restrictive mold, you might start to question your own gender, when really, that makes so little difference to who you actually are.
