I enjoy playing pretend. I play as men, women, animals, magic elves, and so on. The player is not “me”, it’s a character in a story. And I like to experience different stories with different characters. as someone who is a man but doesn’t necessarily identify as one (NB) i find the the female options tend to have better customization and i like to feel pretty even if its not me. Well, just like in irl, I’d rather look at women than guys. Plus, the women characters usually are more customizable than the males. It isn’t a sexual appeal at all. I just like how the female characters have a lot more options when creating them, just like irl 🙂

Obsessed with kek. I maxed out my guy characters and always noticed the girls getting free shit or always getting help when asking. I want free shit and attention that I never get as a man lmao. There have been several academic studies on the subject finding different reasons. Generally it will first be chosen based on ludic reasons, secondly for other reasons. For example, ludic reasons could be that the female character has a smaller hitbox or they are easier to look past in third person games. Other reasons players who identify as male have chosen female characters have been noted to be: to have something pretty (or prettier) to look at, their equipment/attire options are more appealing, there is a degree of “femme fatale” play in it, to play with the gender dynamics compared to their real life gender, or because the gameplay role seems to fit a certain gender better with the player’s perception (e.g. I recall more priests are female in World of Warcraft according to the study published as “The Warcraft Civilization”). There are likely more reasons that have not been uncovered.
