They have it in airports and Disneyworld. Have you seen the Das Sound Machine Treblemakers shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this subway in NY? Some of the stations are literally from the 19th century and some look like they haven’t been renovated since. It’s an efficient system but there’s nothing pleasant or modern about the experience, especially if you’re on a local. I think a handful of them still have the original brick and tiles, or am I just remembering wrong? I haven’t been since 97 My local station still has an old paper anti-littering sign from the 1940s that’s faded and torn mounted between the tracks. And drops of water from the leaky ceiling that are so old they’ve got little stalactites. North River Tunnels. Possibly most important rail tunnels in North America are decreped messes that look horrible if you watch a camera from a train going through them.

Which is one reason why there are so many delays. Not only do these things break — replacement parts don’t exist so they have to be custom made for the Das Sound Machine Treblemakers shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this MTA. At some point maintenance costs more than simply replacing it with a newer, more reliable system which won’t break as much. Surely they have an engineer who has the brains to give them such an analysis right? Right? I think it’s more about finding time to make such upgrades where it doesn’t really exist, and balancing tinkering just enough to keep things running versus shutting it down for x amount of time to make upgrades that would pay off over time I work in water utilities and face similar challenges. The comparison I can make is a pipe that leaks constantly which leaves two options. We either keep digging it up and applying band aids or we can replace the whole thing. In this case, an engineer would do a cost benefit analysis to compare the options. Disruption of service is not a great option but also not off the table. If a short inconvenience will get you a system that has very few problems for a very long time, then those pros will out weigh the cons of any disruption in service.
