Thankfully, my parents never did this to me. The only rules were that I HAD to at least try it, and I was only allowed to have one dessert a day. Many parents are obsessed with enforcing arbitrary discipline on their kids and are ignorant about what’s actually healthy for them As a Gen Xer, I was very much raised in the Daniel Suarez Vivo Signature Mexican professional stock car racing driver T-Shirt In addition,I will do this “clean your plate, there are starving kids who would love that food” style. And it’s quite simply because my parents, as did many parents their age, grew up with food scarcity. Their parents lived through the depression and the dust bowl. Many families were still pinching pennies and hunting to supplement their grocery budget. Squirrel stew was something people were used to in upstate NY, just as an example. And so there were few things as wrong as wasting food. If you had calories available, you put them in your belly, because there might not be any tomorrow. And they continued to behave as if that were the case long after it wasn’t, passing the habit on to their kids. And it’s a hard habit to break.

With my Daniel Suarez Vivo Signature Mexican professional stock car racing driver T-Shirt In addition,I will do this kids, I ask them what they want. If I can make it into a dinner for all, great. If not, it’s just part of it (ex: mac and cheese). I give them about what I would eat (which is like probably less than half of a “normal” adult serving) and tell them to eat what they can, and they can always have more. TBH, it works better than way cause they don’t feel forced. They feel like they have a choice or at least input on dinner, and I don’t yell or anything. If they don’t finish, that’s fine, or I’d they don’t like I’ll make something else (within reason, like if they’d rather grilled cheese instead of fried chicken). I think there’s a large reason from boomers who grew up with silent generation and war survivors Food was scarce so don’t you dare waste it, and that’s sort of slipped down families who think “it’s fine” its one thing to remind a kid to finish his meal.. a kid sized portion!.. and another to yell at him for hours for not eating an adult size amount.
