I remember reading “A perfect day for bananafish” by J.D. My question is if you’ve ever read other holocaust survivors books and compared it to your own/ what was your reaction? Like the father in maus? Did you feel he was a complicated character? Did you feel anger towards his experience as he took on odd Nazi supporting jobs in order survive Auschwitz? My great grandmother died in the Lodz ghetto. Her name was Helene. Where you ever in Lodz? What was it like in the Ghettos? Was there any nortality in there, like notable moments of what could be considered normal life, desire? Friendship laughter mourning love? Dear Mr Lesser, thank you for your time. I can only imagine what a difficult time the war must have been . Reading through memoirs and books written by various other survivors, i feel a sense of awe at their spirits that endured so much and still had a positive outlook on life. Can you shed some light on what were the bright moments during the gloom that made you endure?

This question was inspired by another person, the son of “the butcher of Poland” who grew up and denounced his dad. I always thought the pain of reconciling the man who pushed you on the swing was the same responsible for so much suffering. It’s not something that ends up in a history book. Often the answer is WWII regalia collections. Specifically in the European theater. Do you believe it is acceptable to collect uniforms, pins, flags, etc?
