The 2024 Western Conference Finals are set to be an epic battle between two of the NHL’s most storied franchises: the Dallas Stars and the Edmonton Oilers. Both teams have a rich history in the NHL, and they’re both coming off of impressive regular seasons. The Stars finished second in the Central Division, while the Oilers finished third in the Pacific Division.

The Stars and Oilers have a long and storied rivalry, dating back to the days when both teams were in the Smythe Division. The two teams have met in the playoffs on several occasions, most notably in the 1991 Western Conference Finals. The Oilers won that series in six games, but the Stars got their revenge in 2000, when they defeated the Oilers in the Western Conference Finals in five games.

The Stars had a strong regular season in 2023-24, finishing with a record of 52-22-8. They were led by a balanced scoring attack, with nine players scoring at least 20 goals. The Stars also had a strong defense, led byMiro Heiskanen and Jani Hakanpää. In the playoffs, the Stars defeated the Nashville Predators in the first round, the Colorado Avalanche in the second round, and the St. Louis Blues in the Western Conference Finals.

The Oilers also had a strong regular season in 2023-24, finishing with a record of 53-21-8. They were led by Connor McDavid, who won the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s MVP. The Oilers also had a strong supporting cast, including Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, and Evan Bouchard. In the playoffs, the Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings in the first round, the Calgary Flames in the second round, and the Minnesota Wild in the Western Conference Finals.

The Stars and Oilers are both evenly matched teams, so the Western Conference Finals are sure to be a close series. The Stars have a slight edge in experience, while the Oilers have a slight edge in offensive firepower. Ultimately, the series will likely come down to which team can get the most production from its top players.
The Stars and Oilers are both legitimate Stanley Cup contenders, so it’s difficult to predict who will win the Western Conference Finals. However, the Stars have a slight edge in experience, and they’re playing with a lot of confidence right now. I predict the Stars will defeat the Oilers in seven games.
