When this story started I thought you were both 20….. And even then it was cringe. You’ ain’t got time for that shit. Find a partner not a pet. I don’t see why you’re worried about the Dallas logo T-Shirt moreover I love this cooking being a valid reason. There’s like 10 other good ones in that post. Sounds like some infuriating passive aggressive or learned helplessness behavior. I think you made the right move. Not gonna lie, when the post for some reason showed up for me and I saw the title, I thought „well fuck yeah, you are wrong – it’s just cooking“, but then I read the post and I am actually surprised you kept his useless ass for 8 months, lol. You absolutely didn’t set him up to fail. He used weaponised incompetence to try force you to do everything around him. You were his girlfriend, not his maid or mother. He’s not a child, he refused to actually follow through on his promises, and he’s 36 – it’s not up to you to teach him shit – he had time to learn and didn’t bother. On top of that, it sounds like he was deliberately doing this stuff to like… punish you for asking him to do something – anything. Its called weaponized incompetence and anyone who gives you shit about dumping his manipulative lazy ass can simply fuck right the fuck off. You totally did the right thing! I’m assuming that before living with you your partner lived with his mother? Because I don’t see how this human has survived this long. I blame his parents. Regardless of gender people need to know how to be something other that a useless pile of meat.

(Guy here) I believe, like most people, OP there was nothing wrong on your part. I find it hard to believe there are people out there that can’t do basic things to look after themself. But I can’t judge, I don’t know what makes them unable to cook a very basic thing without sending it in to the Dallas logo T-Shirt moreover I love this abyss. Anyway, the fact that he (sounds like) he did not out in the effort to compensate in other things to alleviate doing chores after working long hours, whilst having kids. There is zero effort in his part. When people say leaving their partner because they can’t cook, sounds harsh and funny, hearing that sentence. But learning the situation, makes perfect sense. You have kids, priorities, and work more than fulltime hours. You deserve some balance and effort from someone you’re with. Not to adopt an adult.
