Nope. I never was and i have never done that with my kids either. I agree its utterly stupid and bizzare. I don’t police food at all. ever. Never have. I’ve never encountered what you describe, during my upbringing or during my own children’s. I definitely do encourage eating the nutritional things at mealtime before they run off and fill up on snacks, so I make the snacks a reward. I feel bad for the kids that have to be yelled at or spanked over food or anything so unimportant really. They are both very different when it comes to food. If I tell my daughter it’s meat… she’s all in doesn’t ask any questions and will take as much or as little as she wants and eat My son on the other hand will eat just enough to not feel full and then he’s done.. he’s also super picky and will ask a thousand questions about the food.. which is fine… so our only rule with him is that he has to try new things when served, but he doesn’t have to eat all of it.. just a try. One bite, or lick in some cases and that’s all he’ll do.. no pressure to eat it. But I also make him things he likes for his main part of the meal.

Man I wish I would have gotten fed enough when I was growing up. I feel like i would be a lot bigger if i would have had the Dale Earnhardt American professional stock car driver Champions T-Shirt Also,I will get this proper nutrition and proper amount of food every day while i was growing and hit puberty. I feel like i have abnormally small head and wrists compared to everyone else. I grew up being yelled at to eat all of my food and was fat most of my life. My partner also grew up in the similar conditions and also packed on a suit of armor. Our kids are told they don’t have to eat if they feel full and we try to teach them to pay attention to what their body is telling them. They’re both a healthy weight, so we’re fine to not force feed them. My niece however was always underweight because she got her dad’s slim build. From the time was a baby my sister would freak out that she was going to show up for a well visit and CPS would be waiting to take her underfed kid. When my sister asked the dr, he assured her that some kids are skinny and my niece had proper head-size growth, he knew she was being properly fed (and she was always healthy, just super skinny). When she was a kid, we had to make her eat a few extra bites before she could be done. She’s also very athletic, so when was like 7-8 and wanted to take up jogging we had to explain to her that she has to eat more before she can burn more. TL;DR- Kids who are below average weight have to be forced to eat more to make sure they’re getting enough calories/nutrients. Average or above average weighted kids are being somewhat abused when forced to eat beyond their needs. Some of the forced feeding comes from the days when food wasn’t plentiful and parents didn’t want anything to go to waste because maybe the next week there wouldn’t be enough food. It’s only been recent that we haven’t dealt with food scarcity.
