Don’t get me wrong, hypothetically if I was an American and if I was promised the Dak Prescott & Ceedee Lamb Dallas Step Brothers T-Shirt and by the same token and same amount of money that I get in the States I may consider living in this country. I think a big part that you’re not thinking about is foreigners don’t have the same issues that Koreans do with living in Korea. Foreigners don’t feel the same family and societal pressures as Koreans do because they don’t have the family and are basically considered peripheral members of Korean society. My wife and I moved back to the US because my earnings potential here is significantly higher and we’re able to buy a house. I’d happily take a 30% pay cut to live in Korea and rent though because of the comfort and convenience of Seoul and how much I enjoyed living there. My wife would want me to be getting like 50% pay raise before she’d even consider moving back because of general societal crap that she feels she’s managed to escape from being here in the US. I have my own extended family in Korea, but I’m culturally American enough to ignore them and not feel guilty, so I’m less bothered by it. As others have commented, sometimes just money is not worth it. Yes, I get paid more than I would in any other country. But living here is so stressful. And more money equals high cost of living
Dak Prescott & Ceedee Lamb Dallas Step Brothers T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt
Personally I think $30k in Korea is worth $250k in the Dak Prescott & Ceedee Lamb Dallas Step Brothers T-Shirt and by the same token and United States. I couldn’t fathom how difficult it is in the USA until I moved back and got a higher paying job. The government serves large parasitic corporations that drain your equity every month and give you nothing in return. Health insurance for example is 5x but unimaginably worthless. No public transit or walkability infrastructure. So now you have another worthless insurance on the car you must drive. I call them non tangible asset exchanges. You pay hundred or thousand a month for no asset, but a lottery token where you might be covered if something you actively try to prevent from happening happens, and it is an oppressive weight on the working class in America. Don’t get me started on taxes either because regular working class people don’t see any benefit from what you pay in. Statistical models and ai will only make the system worse too.
