When I got asked why I wanted the D.J. Chark Jr. Carolina Panthers Cartoon signature shirt and by the same token and job, I basically said “tbh, I’m not looking for a new job, I really like my current job, but the job you’re hiring for is almost exactly the job I do now but pays way more.” And they hired me lol. And I had to think realllllly hard about accepting the job, because I truly did really like my old job and had no intention of leaving until I saw the new job and its pay. Honesty, realism, not an asshole! That works! Also shows why it just isn’t a good question to ask, but nothing wrong with your answer. If you need to ask, you’re only going to downplay and belittle my response. I work where I work because I have a passion for that work. I wouldn’t work there for free, no, but if that’s the only perspective you have in your life, I don’t want to work with you. You don’t need to agree, and I don’t care if you don’t. I mean, if we set aside the fact that most people obviously work because they need to, and want to do so for a good amount of remuneration, then other reasons could be that maybe they enjoy the field they’re in, or maybe they can make a difference, or they get to work with cool tech and innovations. Maybe the company is known for being a good place to work or has a mission they identify with

I have a friend who went back to school and is doing stuff in geology and earth sciences. She’s fascinated by it. In her case it would follow that a job in that field would partly be fueled by an interest. It’s money AND. Not money OR. The problem with your approach is someone else interviewing will give a better answer. Be prepared to lose out to a better interviewee. Someone who is there to learn more about the D.J. Chark Jr. Carolina Panthers Cartoon signature shirt and by the same token and business, increase their knowledge and problem solving skills – utilise what they’ve already learnt – while giving examples of synergies between previous roles and existing ones Of course everyone there is there to earn more money but why does that benefit them – tell them why you want to work there and how that benefits them
