You can eat it. But I don’t think that box will taste as good as the Cute Peace Love Dogs Tie Dye Dog Paw Dog Mom Mothers Day T-Shirt and I will buy this chicken. Won’t be as good for you either… (probably…though that chicken isn’t likely to be much better). Ok so any time I order fried anything from a restaurant I immediately open the box for the ride home. All that hot food is going to steam in there and make everything soggy. Ask the restaurant to order better to go boxes. Even the ones w vents will still steam. But at least it releases some of the heat. Polystyrene is considered safe for food use when in a solid state. However, heating can cause chemicals to leach from the foam and into the food. Eating the contents of a melted foam container one time is unlikely to cause harm. However, repeated exposure, which can be cumulative, can be a health risk. I’ve eaten food like that. Also my kidneys stopped working for a fews months. I do not believe the two are related, but as they never figured out why they did it, who knows?

I am a material scientist and used to be product development manager of a large polystyrene food packaging company that made these across the Cute Peace Love Dogs Tie Dye Dog Paw Dog Mom Mothers Day T-Shirt and I will buy this world. They actually contain very little polystyrene, being foamed it gives it strength and volume. The whole box will only weigh a few grams. You could happily eat the whole box if you wanted and it would pass straight through you without issue. (Apart from constipation). We often had enquiries along those lines from people who’s kid/drunk friend/dog ate the box. Whether long term exposure to high levels of styrene is carcinogenic that’s a different case. They have been making these boxes around the world since the late 60s and there is no evidence to suggest workers in the factories are any more or less likely to catch cancer or any other illness related to working in a factory 12 hrs a day. Factories that heat and reheat this stuff and the air is full of styrene fumes. So eating from a box every now and then is fine. Good question but there are more concerning things on the world like how much saturated fat is on your fried chicken….
