I grew up in a fucked up house and I’m mentally fucked. my best friend grew up rich with a loving family, yet somehow he’s fucked up too. Conspiracies, polarization, ever growing social inequallity etc etc, and mixed with global warming on top Ever since I was about 13 I decided no kids ever. My parents taught me a few skills like cooking, laundry and dishes by the time I was 9 because my dad worked night shift and my mom wasn’t much of a mom. By the time I was 13 my parents divorced and my mom never moved out of the house so it lead to more drama and abuse. I started working at 16, moved out at 18 and have never looked back. I’m now 33, fixed with no kiddos and never will. They will need too much time and energy. Taking care of kids is not easy and I don’t see the point. Studies have proven no difference in happiness of people with and without kids, so it’s not like my quality of life will deteriorate without kids. To the contrary, those late night feeding of the baby, getting extra sick coz kids bring in more germs, hockey classes.school stuff, college etc is just too much burden.

The real question is what makes people actively want kids. For what it’s worth, to satisfy all selfish and parent-centred reasons, dogs (and pets) are near-perfect substitutes.
