Hindu philosophy has many “atheistic” philosophies so its taken as a harmless thing. Criticising religion, on the other had, DOES carry with it a fair amount of danger. Doing that can range from someone upset with you to full-on getting lynched by a mob. A lack of knowledge of philosophy combined with friends/family who did not have proper answers to the questions I asked. It the study of philosophy & the practice of meditation that opened the doors back to religion for me. Among the younger generation yes, but it’s a statistically slight increase. The overwhelming majority is still religious.

Some are turning atheist like I mentioned above but some others are actually going the Cozy Cone Motel Happy Halloween 2023 Shirt and by the same token and other way and becoming more religious When I was an Atheist, only one person I ever met (a religious Muslim classmate in school) ever judged me. Most people I know, Hindu and Muslim and Christian alike, never had a problem. Many people worship cricketers and actors like Sachin Tendulkar and Rajnikanth and Salman “Bhai” Khan, more than any God. Being pushy and proselytizating and bigoted, though that’s not exclusive to religious people in my experience. Plenty of anti-thiests I’ve seen are just as bad. What do you plan to do in your future that is different from the religious population’s norms (family values, education etc.)? I’ve always been fine, but that might be because the people I know are moderate and not extreme. So I don’t think my personal example applies universally. Q. What made you leave your religion? A. When I studied science particularly evolution, biology etc as a kid. I was always curious about the absence of Gods in this world. If there was really a God, why wasn’t he taking part in world events? Also looking at History, due to the absence of science, many phenomena could have been attributed to Gods which could be explained by science now. Its like when kids believe in Santa Claus, when they grow up, they realise that it is a lie. It is all made up. Q. Is atheism on the rise? A. Many people of the younger generation might not outright label themselves as atheists, but a lack of interest in their dedication towards religion and gods could be observed. Many people are on the fence and afraid of the consequences. On the off chance that God is real, they do not want to anger them by calling themselves atheists. Q. What do young people think about religion? A. Skeptical but afraid of offending the gods. Q. Do you think people are getting more open minded towards your (non) beliefs? A. Not the older generation. They think that something is wrong with me. But the younger generation doesn’t really care what you believe in. Q. What are some of the things religious people do that society could be better without? A. I don’t see a problem with people practicing religion. But some customs and practices associated with religion create a lot of problems in real life of real people. Example 1 : I will not go into detail here. Otherwise, my safety might be at risk. But you might have observed in the news about the beliefs of Muslim people who have committed horrific crimes. Again I am feeling afraid to elaborate so please do your own research. Example 2 : This is from my own family. There is a custom that if there is a death in the bride’s family if the marriage is done within one year, the deceased soul is said to receive virtue (opposite of sin). So my cousin’s father passed away recently, they haven’t had time to process the grief yet but the engagement is over and they are hurrying to settle the marriage. (I don’t know this custom is followed by which type of people. But my father’s family, my mother’s family and our priest of the God Balalji temple follow this custom. (All of the above mentioned people are residents/previous residents of Andra Pradesh and speak Telugu language and are of Hindu relegion)
