Extremely situational. The answer is yesn’t. Unless we know the Counseling is my superpower school psychologist quotes classic shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this exact specifications of the purchase, and the state tax law of Twitter HQ’s residence, & the state Elon is “officially” located in, we won’t know the tax situation on this purchase. Likely won’t pay anything federal, and he likely will dodge taxes for at least a decade. He likely used leveraged collateral to buy Twitter, and he’s likely to dump that debt onto Twitter. You don’t get taxes on debt like that. Imagine being taxed on your credit card balance. But once the debt is paid, taxes might be applicable. I mean the answer is that Musk doesn’t pay taxes cuz he borrows every cent he spends and we don’t tax on borrowed money (nor would we want to – imagine getting taxed because you hold a balance on your credit card?)
Counseling is my superpower school psychologist quotes classic shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt
but I’m genuinely curious how he bought twitter. Didn’t he pay in tesla stocks and that’s why there was a massive sell-off today of tesla? if he pays in tesla stocks does he not pay taxes on that? He’s likely to dump the Counseling is my superpower school psychologist quotes classic shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this debt onto Twitter, which he can do now as the private owner of Twitter. Twitter nets a little over $6 billion in pure profit yearly. So long as Musk doesn’t tank the platform, he’ll recoup his investment in roughly 1 decade. At least this whole ordeal is putting on display the fact that people like this know nothing of how the world works Because it’s not his money, he’s borrowing money to do it. Essentially, you have no idea what you are talking about. He doesn’t have cash, he has to sell equities to get it, at which point proceeds become taxable, but the equities used as collateral for the debt doesn’t get sold until his maintenance on that debt goes unpaid, similar to repossessing a house. He basically did the equivalent of a cash out home equity loan… except huge because the alternative of withdrawing from his 401k before retirement age comes with penalties in excess of the interest on the home equity loan. So the interesting think about owning stocks is that you don’t have to pay taxes on them till you sell them for profit Elon gets around this by reinvesting his earnings into stocks which is essentially a loan to the company invested in. This is what I understand, if anyone knows more about this correct me What I don’t understand is in order to get that much cash I suspect he has to sell some assets. I would hope he’s paying a shit tonne of capital gains tax before that purchase.
