If the Convict 45 meidastouch antI Trump gifts classic shirt Besides,I will do this minimum wage “now” was $15.00 an hour, it would have increased 12 times. If rent is $1,000 “now”, it would have increased (almost) “5” times. (Do The Math) In 1976 a studio apartment, in a converted warehouse in NYC, was $2,775 a month. (a studio apartment is “ONE” ROOM). In 1970, the highest paid player in the NFL was paid $75,000 per year. TODAY the highest paid player in the NFL makes “50 MILLION” dollars per year. The answer can be explained using basic economics. The majority of people making minimum wage do not understand basic economics. Not just politicians. Remember when Mnuchin thought $1000/m was too many multiples of rent for a stimulus? I forget what he actually said, but it was something to that affect. [I think it was something like $120 or $150/wk being called generous bridge money during the stay-home part of the pandemic] In 1973 I rented a big house with 6 other people, we each paid $35 a month. The problem was, it was student housing and during the summer the landlord lowered the rent to get tenants, but, when school started the rent tripled. I didn’t sign the lease and didn’t know it was for only 3 months. Naive 18 year old. You are getting more chances, more freedom, more equality, more health and education, more infrastructure developments, more opportunity to kick start a business, a vast open internet to learn about literally anything, and other so many things that go unnoticed. Why don’t you also compare the salary range back then and compare it to today’s standards? Why not talk about inflation too? Most young people are so bogged down with debt, and dealing with stagnating wages, that it’d be hard to find the capital to “kickstart a business.”

It isn’t 1980 anymore. Wages are frozen while inflation skyrockets. Houses are well beyond the Convict 45 meidastouch antI Trump gifts classic shirt Besides,I will do this reach of many under-35’s. Things are not getting better and have to change. “A vast open internet” doesn’t do much when most skilled jobs require formal education in a field, which tends to cost money. So did all you 37k people who upvoted this dumb gibe also write to your representatives and tell them you won’t vote for them unless they raise the minimum wage? Yeah, I didn’t think so. No the problem is that today’s kids think they should be able to buy a house directly out of college and not have to live with a roommate. They want a manager’s lifestyle without having to work up the ladder. All y’all talking about your old parents don’t realize when y’all were young they also had a hard time paying rent) mortgage. It was a time we made maybe $200 week and that was a lot of money. It isn’t that we don’t understand, it’s that we never made as much money as our children do and will, so we don’t pay out as much as you do/ will. How do you think you got where you are? Those parents you speak of. My mom was a teacher and raises two of us on less than 16k a year. Her mortgage was $200. Try that ratio. You g people today don’t have what it takes to make it on less. Many times we didn’t have tv or phones. Sacrifices were made. Your turn to make them. I am a proud 55 year old. I live in one of the most expensive places to live in the country. All rent/mortgages are ridiculous. No matter where you are. The difference is in what kind of sacrifice will our young adults actually make? Eat at home, learn to cook, grow your own food, make date night $20. Drive a ten year old vehicle or older. It took us all these years to have what we have. We didn’t instantly have a house, furniture, car, pets and 2.4 kids. Stop trying to have it all!
