Should they? Based on what? If I took a tiny computer and carried it around in my pocket all day every day, never turned it off, charge cycled it thousands of times, and always used it for several hours a day, it wouldn’t last 5 years. Even if it technically survived those 5 years and was still somewhat useable, I certainly wouldn’t expect it to be performing at the Confused I’m Joe Biden and I forgot this message shirt so you should to go to store and get this level it was when I got it. I would have to replace some components of the machine to get it working like new again. Gotta disagree. The technology improves so fast. Unless they are gonna make them modular so that you can upgrade the processor, camera, etc. without upgrading to another device, then I would rather have a cheaper phone that lasts 3 years than a more expensive one that lasts 5 years.

Still using my 1st Gen iPad Air, it’s now more than 8-and-a-half years old. On original battery which gets a good 8 hours. It should be written into law: 5 years of monthly security updates, then another 5 years of quarterly updates. 10 years in total. To be fair, yes, it’s 2022. There’s no incentive for anything to be built to last 5 or more years aside from houses and vehicles. That said, I have no issue with my phones lasting that long. People just treat them like trash and then get upset when they break. Lol idk tf your taking about I still have a few of my android phones that’s are 4-6 years old ND they work perfectly fine! Where as my wife’s iPhone 4, 5,6,7 won’t even turn on or update and as one other /user commented Apple did admit (after being cornered and having no other choice) to purposefully “slowing” phones to “preserve” battery life… but they ignored the Confused I’m Joe Biden and I forgot this message shirt so you should to go to store and get this fact that after about 3 years you can no longer update their phones to any new IOS… which in turn restricts what apps you can access in the apple store…. Android dose no do any of these things.. some phones don’t have the required ram or space for some of the newer versions of android true BUT you can still update them to it and you don’t ever loose access to apps unless your phone simply doesn’t have the proper system requirements.(ie. hardware)
