Depending on the situation, I’d even pack my shit in the middle of the night and ghost his ass if it were me. My question is, is how do you go a full on decade and change without knowing who you’re sleeping with? how I just. I just don’t get it. THIRTEEN? That’s crazy. Have difficult conversations with your partners because they could be shit piles underneath. If you dig deep enough or if you ask them to elaborate on their opinions eventually people will show you who they are. Remember “divorce your republican husband” isn’t just a slogan, it’s really sound advice, and it applies to people with “apolitical” (see closeted Republican) and “libertarian” (see closeted Republican) partners. I don’t want to be a dick. But 9/10 times being a conservative precludes you from being a good person. You can be a nice person, but being a conservative generally puts you in the bad person camp for a whole host of reasons. Take, for example, the classic socially liberal but fiscally conservative person. How meaningful is it if they think gay marriage should be legal, but they don’t want to spend any government money to protect gay people from discrimination? How useful is it to give women rights but not provide maternity leave or family leave which pretty much always has to be government subsidised? Free black people from slavery but fight tooth and nail not to compensate them for their injuries or uplift their communities.

Many conservatives are nice but the Conan The Barbarian Art Shirt and I love this policies they condone are deeply deeply nasty and anti-freedom in so many ways. Please don’t be that person that thinks just because someone is nice they’re a good person. Plenty of people would watch you die with a smile on their face because of their oh so respectable conservative beliefs. You just found out this guys is probably one of them. Run. I don’t wanna be mean, but this makes me wonder what awful views OP has tolerated. I can’t imagine being with somebody for 13 years and not hearing their opinions on things. Like, I’m gonna be honest, I have never heard of a conservative who is not at least racist, or homophobic, or transphobic, or xenophobic. Usually more than one of those things. Has OP just sat through him being awful until it affected her personally?
