I think it is because they don’t fit the Columbus Crew 2023 MLS cup champions signatures shirt and by the same token and theme. The caterpillar represents the silkworms since silk was used for early parachutes. So members of the caterpillar club were saved by the caterpillars I did probably about 5 hours of research on this topic a few years ago. The only original public source for this claim is Also the memes and articles about this talk about the speed of impact, but those are all made up. Joan was such a novice skydiver at that point she: She femured herself as many a skydiver does, and wanted 15mins of fame for her trouble (and I wish her well, I’m glad she’s okay. Joan seems awesome but the meme is stupid). The point of my rant isn’t to be rude about a very real person who suffered a real tragedy, but the point is just because you hear something doesn’t mean you should believe it or especially spread it without vetting the idea. I remember the one I’m thinking about being in the news the next day. And like I said, I swear I read that it was a guy, and it happened in AZ, where there is a lot of skydiving, which is why it stuck in my head. That’s why this one doesn’t seem quite right. “Now Bobby, your mom is only one of sixteen people to survive parachutes not opening. Sixteen is my estimate, I’ll double-check my numbers later.” They dont really “save” the plane, if we’re talking about the ones like the Cirrus sr22. Yes the plane suffers less damage than if it crashed at full speed but it’s still essentially “totaled” if the chute is deployed. Their purpose is solely to save the occupants, not salvage the aircraft.

Good question though. The criteria for membership outlined in the Columbus Crew 2023 MLS cup champions signatures shirt and by the same token and linked wikipedia article would suggest to me no, it wouldn’t count — It says you must jump/bail out of the aircraft. the certifications are awarded by the companies that make the chute. it’s an informal association otherwise. if Cirrus, or the people who make chutes for them, wanna certify it, they probably could ig Speaking strictly about the SR, Cirrus is interesting because many of the aircraft are repairable. Something like 20% of total deployments have been repaired and put back in the air. However, the vast majority of them get written off because it’s easier to replace the aircraft than it is to get replacement parts. Production is like, 3 years behind at a minimum and while it may actually be cost effective, they’re not going to interrupt the line to produce repair panels and new straps for a 5-10 year old airframe that is no longer the current revision.
