Not to mention those places are donating that money you gave in the Chuck tiff nouveau chucky shirt in addition I really love this name of the company. Walmart used to ask for a donation then post a big sign on the wall saying how much “they” raised for the charity Because when you donate, they consider it revenue, which they then donate to charity, and thus get to write them sum as tax break! Yes, but only the donated money qualifies for the tax break, not the rest of their revenue. There’s no tax benefit for the company at large based on charitable donations at checkout. They aren’t benefitting from the tax break of charitable revenue, they’re benefiting from the goodwill of visibly donating to causes as a form of advertisement, or in some cases they hold onto that money to generate interest for as long as possible before donating the initial amount. If there’s in a year a 1M of donations, the company donates it, can’t they reduce their taxable income amount by that much?

If a company’s revenue is 10m and they get 1m in donations, they can write off the Chuck tiff nouveau chucky shirt in addition I really love this 1m. The other 10m is still taxed just the same. If the company does 10m and doesn’t collect/make any donations they’re in exactly the same place, only they didnt have incur any of the overhead costs/effort to collect and donate the extra million. Their benefit (because obviously most companies wouldn’t do somehitng like this if there was no benefit) is that every year they get to say ‘look at all this money we collected for charity!’. They also don’t just directly donate the money right at the time you hand it over, they invest it or let it acrue interest in some other means, then donate it in one big chunk at a later date and profit off of the money that way too. In most cases too, majority of the donated money does not go to the org. The store keeps most and a percentage is contributed
