It’s time to part ways. That’s not being dishonest or disrespectful. the other stuff is no big deal, people are different. not a limit to your ability to be friends with them. the mate I had who used to tell me i I could be making so much more money finally burnt out and disappeared and im still chugging alone just fine. but the drinking thing I completely get, its tedious. I don’t drink these days as there is literally no point. i told people im not going to pubs and they are welcome to come round to hang out, get a pizza, watch the football etc. most are fine and we do that when time allows, some just drifted off and thats cool. You get on with him but don’t feel like you can tell him that it’s annoying if he bugs you about not drinking? Damn man just have a chat with him about this.

Consider also that he has you as a reminder of what he doesn’t have. Hopefully, you’ll be able to turn him round to looking at your position as something he could aspire to. I have a friend that has taken a different path to me. There were times when I had nowt, he had a better life (not great, but was in a way better position). I got myself out of my pit of shit. He, regressed. I got a job, gf, kids etc. he has no job, and sits smoking weed all day.
