One of my biggest struggles is CTR, though I’ve seen significant improvement in my last 3 videos. What would you suggest I work on for future videos? I work with clients in tons of different markets, and if you would try and find a correlation between all these channels and what a good CTR is you couldn’t. I’d much rather focus on impressions. If you get 10k impressions, and only 50 people end up watching your video, you are not packaging it in a way that that audience is enticed to click. Conclusion: work on your title and thumbnails If a client of mine has 50+ videos on similar topics I can quickly establish an average amount of impressions on them and an average CTR. That’s when the CTR metric becomes somewhat useable as it will become more and more trustworthy.

As a creator, I want to create researched, detailed, educational content that fully explains the Chicken I May Look Calm But In My Imagination Pecked You 3 Times Sarcasm T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this processes and background of what I show on camera. The market (“antique restoration”) wants the opposite – silent / ASMR content with visuals only. It doesnt care about quality (full of fakes) so much as it cares about nebulous “satisfaction”. Any advice on striking a balance between what a creator can ethically accept as their lower limit for detail/quality, and what people will actually watch? It’s a balancing act. There will always be a sweet spot, but finding that will cost you time and uploads, to be honest. YouTube isn’t your livelihood yet so please experiment! Find that sweet spot where viewers enjoy your content and you do while making it. Maybe a simple common ground could be just onscreen text explanations while work is being done versus a voice telling it to them. Who knows, only one way to find out! My main tip would be to test a format like the example I gave above for at least 5-10 videos to be able to discern noise from signal. A ton of beginner creators try a format and recipe for one video and base their opinion on that, while there is tons of noise polluting that data in the form of market timing, day of the week, topic selection etc. etc. unfortunately for me, doing 5 to 10 videos in one single style means spending… well, a lot of money. So its not a luxury I can really indulge in, at least not on a timely schedule.
