The Chicago White Sox have made history, becoming the fastest team to reach 100 losses in Major League Baseball history. The Sox suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Friday, marking their 100th defeat of the 2022 season. This ignominious milestone was achieved in just 138 games, shattering the previous record set by the 2003 Pittsburgh Pirates, who reached 100 losses in 140 games.

The White Sox’s rapid descent into baseball infamy has been nothing short of remarkable. The team entered the season with cautious optimism, having signed All-Star closer Liam Hendriks and traded for veteran shortstop Elvis Andrus. However, a series of injuries, poor performances, and managerial miscues derailed their hopes early on. Their struggles reached a new low in August, when they lost 14 consecutive games, the longest losing streak in franchise history.

The core of the White Sox team that won the American League Central Division in 2021 has crumbled in spectacular fashion. Injuries have sidelined key players like Lance Lynn, Lucas Giolito, and Yasmani Grandal. The offense, once a strength, has been anemic, with Jose Abreu and Luis Robert failing to live up to expectations. Manager Tony La Russa, a Hall of Famer, has been criticized for his handling of the team, particularly his bullpen management.

The White Sox’s historic failure has not gone unnoticed by their passionate fan base. Game attendance has dwindled, and social media has been flooded with expressions of frustration and disappointment. The team’s ownership has come under fire for their lack of investment in the roster and their failure to address the team’s glaring weaknesses.
