I listened to my partner’s life story when she brought me along to therapy during her transition. I never heard her at any point talk about wanting to be like a trans public figure, or liking some aesthetic about the Chicago Bears Super Star Shirt but in fact I love this LGBTQ+ community, or anything like that. I did hear her talk about her christian faith, and about how shaken it became when she started exploring transitioning to have that faith used against her by her family. It’s never about propaganda and the symbolism people are exposed to. It’s not about a developmental phase. It’s about letting people choose their partners and their life paths according to what fits right for who they are, as long as that doesn’t harm anyone else. I have a Trans child and a gay child, I am so glad that they have a family that loves them. My daughter recieved the 1st ever pride scholarship from her high school. Love makes all the difference. This made me cry.. much to fellow parents creating safe environments for children to grow into themselves, whoever they may be.

I think this is the Chicago Bears Super Star Shirt but in fact I love this real crux of it all. Conservatives are always projecting they’re own fears onto external signifiers. Ultimately, I think most of them are afraid they won’t be able to love their children anymore if they are gay/trans/non-binary. So, instead of self-reflecting, which is really hard, you just lash out and attempt to control the sexuality of your children yourself. It’s honestly sad. And also, if they refuse to do that self-reflection work, fuck ‘em and let them be sad little losers. I do agree though, I’ve seen the parents of closeted friends and family react this way and it does seem like they try to keep things “normal” and “recognizable” I guess. I think parents in general are afraid of their kids changing (some more than others) and when a child comes out their previous perception as “straight” changes dramatically. Obviously that doesn’t mean a parent has to be a dick about it, but that’s where I think that comes from
