I’m so sorry that happened to him. I love it when people offer to help or grab it for me. I remember having a conversation with my partner about societal expectations for both genders and how absolutely contradictory they are. It’s crazy how you’re expected to be a gentleman and offer to help sometimes but other times you need to mind your own damn business or be seen as a creeper and you’re expected to know exactly when that is and in what way even though it changes from person to person :8412: I’m sorry society sucks and pushes good people out of being so considerate. I’m sure the older women appreciate you since such kindness seems to be difficult to find these days for these exact reasons. At least for the US, we need new societal expectations for men. We are stuck trying to fulfill both the legacy expectation and an undefined always changing new definition that is a list of don’ts, but no dos.

The first time a woman my age shouted me down for holding a restaurant door open for her on a cold, rainy Chicago night I learned my lesson : don’t mess around with strangers. You bought too many groceries? You ask me for help, I’m happy to help. But I am not engaging with strangers otherwise, especially women. Nah I was offering to take her cart back at the grocery store. I needed a cart, she need to dispose of a cart, seemed like a win win. I just shrugged and got a cart from the corral near the door.
