Ultimately to me that part makes sense. Might not be an issue or even a risk for 10 people, but if 200 people all have their phones on maybe there is a 1% chance of something happening. If that is the Checkered Flag Raleigh Ice Caps shirt in other words I will buy this case it would make sense to ask for phones to be off. I believe the FCC regulations say every phone model has to be tested for non-interference or deemed safe by the airline operator. Nobody wants to test every phone on every plane or enforce certain phones but not others, so airlines prohibit all of them. But this is not law technically, it is corporate policy which is upheld by the law as enforceable. That would all make sense. I would imagine the testing (as with all testing) is limited and won’t account for every scenario. That’s the key thing: it’s not interference, they just want people to not make calls during takeoff and landing when a vast, vast amount of emergencies occur

I think this one is right up there with the Checkered Flag Raleigh Ice Caps shirt in other words I will buy this signs on gas pumps telling you that you must turn off your cell phone – while the display screen is asking you to scan a QR code to get their app. When cell phone became a thing, there were a lot of urban legends and fearmongering. Some of that even became law. It’s more so from back in the days when devices could interfere with electronic equipment on board the aircraft. That isn’t really an issue nowadays because the systems are designed better and have more redundancies built in. It’s still very much to your own benefit to use airplane mode however, because when you leave your phone off airplane mode it will constantly be searching for cell towers which chews through battery like you wouldn’t believe. When you enable airplane mode all inbound and outbound connections are terminated (besides Bluetooth & WiFi, if enabled) which preserves battery life and focuses only on what you’re doing at that time (movies, music etc..). So anyone who refuses to use airplane mode as some sort of weird protest is actually only shooting themselves in the foot.
