funny how tickled you get when someone comes for Chinese people, but you somehow have the Check out the back of my baseball card shirt in other words I will buy this same energy for white people. In terms of food, we get better seafood than you might be used to — except in Ho Chi Minh City, where it’s pretty average. There are still many other good things to eat though. I’d recommend Nhu Lan bakery on Ham Nghi street. Despite being a bakery, they have many dishes and all are OK-to-good. Bun dau mam tom is worth trying, as a tourist, just look for a restaurant for it called “Homemade”. It is… only average, but easy to find. Be sure to enjoy lots of coffee here (especially egg coffee). As a funny anecdote, last time I was in Shanghai, coffee was still rare and expensive. It was had to find a place serving it, and it was like 50 yuan!

If you’re willing to take a 5-hour train ride out of the Check out the back of my baseball card shirt in other words I will buy this city, I’d recommend visiting Phan Thiet. It’s got a friendly smaller-town vibe, and good seafood is available (I can direct you in this case). I’d avoid Mui Ne though. For culture, I’d recommend at least visiting the Independence palace. It’s sort of neat and has a big garden around it. The nearby parks are nice too. Vietnamese calligraphy is also interesting — quite different from the Chinese tradition. Not only does it often use Latin characters, but (in my opinion) the strokes are much more dramatic — there is less emphasis on legibility. In terms of language, we’ve got a couple more tones than you do, and we write phonetically with Latin characters… but you will find some familiar words anyway. We also have a lot of French loan words! Yes I see, the coffee in the centre if shanghai is very expensive, espicial the coffee restaurant has tables and seats. In the centr of shanghai, I usually buy the coffeff from the apps, usually when you buy coffee online, you can have some discount.
