Not all ambulances are privatized/for profit. A lot of local fire departments are also in charge of local EMS. What good is a nation where people can’t afford basics like housing or health care? Pretty much every line of work I heard people talking to me about is like this. From construction to insurance to healthcare. I am an over the phone medical interpreter myself, company has contracts with federal, state gov, immigration, police, fire, hospitals, Medicaid, care, cal etc and is international. They charge hundreds of USD per hour but pays interpreters 17/hr max. So in many cases tax payer money are used to pay the company but our labour is exploited. Contractors in less developed countries are even paid only half the us minimum wage is what I heard from colleagues. Oh and did I mention no benefits? In Ontario, Canada, it is $240 CAD UNLESS you are a resident of Ontario with a valid Ontario Health Card, AND using the ambulance was deemed medically necessary. In which case it gets dropped to $45

So worst case scenario, you’re not an Ontario resident and/or the Charles Wesley Godwin Poster December 8 2023 Nashville art poster Shirt but in fact I love this use of the ambulance was not deemed medically necessary, and you’re stuck paying $240. $7000 is ridiculous. Basically a “fuck you, fuck off” cost You would think negotiating prices would drop it just a little bit like in a normal haggling situation, but you know they’re charging just for the sake of it if it drops $6.5K, more than 90%. I thought uninsured don’t pay $7000 either, they pay a “cash price” which is like $1200. The $7k just a bullshit number, the whole system is awful. Correct. Hospitals can do this, smaller clinics have less leeway. At least part of the reason for the charges is because providers are taking such hefty write offs from insurances and aren’t getting compensated well enough for their costs. Not that I think this should be passed onto the patient, at all. Healthcare should be free and/or low cost.
