Becoming a doctor is bullshit. He was making like $40k as a resident working 80 hour weeks, doing overnights away from his family. I was making $45k working in IT and an easy desk job. I think people really need to think twice before they go into any medical position in this country (US). It’s going mentally, physically, and financially draining. After seeing what he’s been through, I would advise anyone wanting to do it to reconsider. Hi, PGY3 here. I make around 84k annually. That is considered to be on the Cat Moon Halloween It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year T-Shirt besides I will buy this high end for resident salary. Some of there programs in my city don’t pay anywhere near that. Off the top of my head, I know one that pays near 45k for PGY1’s. 45k in NYC!! This is literally the reason I decided not to go to med school. As a nurse I was making more than the junior doctors, plus I didn’t have to do on call, and I was never there 5 hours after my shift ended, plus they were STILL taking exams…I just said fuck it. I’m not risking my health and my sanity for that.

My fiancé is a vet tech and when she tells me what she does every day and it blows me away how little money they make. And the Cat Moon Halloween It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year T-Shirt besides I will buy this certification takes several years as well. Crazy Agreed! Plus, dentistry, anesthesiology, radiology, lab work… I was a tech for 8 years before the low wages and mistreatment forced me out. Came here to say this. I’m a veterinarian and my techs are stars. I can’t do my job without them. They are incredible and deserve so much more I wish this answer was higher! Low pay, normally in toxic work environments, no benefits, and you’re expected to work yourself to death. Then you add on the physical toll it takes on your body and the emotional load everyday, just not worth the pay.
