I really have no idea how I’m supposed to be “proud” to be an American. My government is full of bigotry and corruption and it has been for so many decades. Ngl I can’t even look at older generations with respect anymore for having fallen for their tricks and even participated in them. There is a single paragraph that prohibits teaching sexuality and gender in elementary school. Not “don’t say gay;” don’t teach the Cardinals Team Baseball Shirt and I will buy this genderbread man and all that stuff to kids who haven’t even reached puberty yet. I don’t think that’s unreasonable at all. The rest of the bill is about something that I think is very important: It says that schools cannot withhold information about their students from those students’ parents. Parents not only have a right to know what is going on with their children; they need to know. Teachers are not primary caregivers. Children do not belong to the state. Any issues observed at school need to be reported to the parents because the parents are paying the schools to teach their kids. The argument has been that to disclose things like gender non-conformity could open the child up to abuse at home. Well, if there’s abuse, we already have clearly-defined procedures for dealing with it. You don’t get to assume abuse.

This is not a “left-wing” or “right-wing” problem. “Both sides” (if there really are sides) willfully misrepresent the Cardinals Team Baseball Shirt and I will buy this content of bills they don’t want to pass (remember “death panels?”), and most people don’t read it to find out they are being lied to. The bill is 2 pages long. Read it. The offending paragraph has one part I think needs to be revised, because it uses the undefined and undefinable term “age-appropriate.” It should simply stop at prohibiting sexuality and gender teaching in elementary school. That’s doable. No one knows what “age-appropriate” means. Some kids tell their friends they’re gay way before they tel their parents. Kids being outed to their parents before they’re ready is harmful to them. In some cases, parents are no accepting and this can severely damage the kid further.
