More popular games can branch into a metric fuckton of categories, sure, but any% followed by 100% are the two you’ll find on the vast majority of games. Take a quick look around on speedrun.com if in doubt. Oh, and neither any% nor 100% are inherently glitchless — or glitched, for that matter — they’re only concerned with completion percentage. But those two are by far the most prevalent categories. Glitchless isn’t as popular as people think. Again, refer to speedrun.com if in doubt. In my experience (from more than a decade of speedrunning various games) it’s mostly major glitches that get categorized separately because they skip literally the entire game or big enough portions that even us runners don’t find it particularly fun (see Super Mario 3, Super Meat Boy, Mega Man 1, and tons of other games with wrong warps and/or ACE). But then other glitches are still allowed in the category.

Just always get annoyed when new any% records come out and there’s those few that say “you basically didn’t play the Camp Half Blood Cabin 5 Ares Merch Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this game so it’s not a real record”. I remember some years ago I was watching a youtube video of some guy speedrunning mario 64. He had all these complicated mathematical formulas based on actual kinematics. It was genuinely fascinating to watch. I had the same thought about the guy who uses interdimensional travel to beat a mario 64 level in 1/2 an A press. Dude should have been working on getting us to the real space age with warp drives and shit That “parallel dimension” stuff in Mario 64 is pretty much just integer overflow. But explained in an intentionally ridiculous way. “It’s important to understand how we’ll be building up speed, cause we’ll be doing it for the next 12 and a half hours” Its why I prefer to run No Major Glitches when I speed run, killing a run because a glitch didn’t work, especially one no one understands why it works, just doesn’t sit well with me. I’d rather fail due to me screwing something up or not anticipated an RNG of the AI.
