To play devils advocate, isn’t the California Racers Super Power Handmade Hot Rods T-Shirt But I will love this winner supposed to be the NEXT drag superstar who represents the FUTURE of drag? So the things you talk about — her notoriety, legendary status and reputation — are not really part of the decision-making process. It should be less about looking at their past performance and more about what they might do in the future — right? I think Sasha’s obviously amazing and I would not be angry at her winning at all, but full disclosure that I am Team Anetra. I actually like this argument a lot, but I think the show’s general aim for the idea of “the future of drag” doesn’t meet the current, real life moment where drag is being challenged, attacked, and banned around the country. And I think Ru’s willing (eager, really) to speak to that this year. Sasha Colby – as a legend – is someone that young people look towards because she’s such an icon. And, frankly, this is her first major exposure to a national audience. She’s inspirational, and maybe in less freakish times, Anetra would fit that “future of drag winner” vision better. Here and now, Sasha is the superstar we need.

Also, who’s to say that a current legend can’t move forward into superstardom? Madonna had how many successful decades? Sasha about to explode and that sounds very much like the California Racers Super Power Handmade Hot Rods T-Shirt But I will love this future to me I think it’s important to remember that Sasha would not have been cast on the show for most of its history. It’s only in the past 2-3 years that the show has cast openly trans queens. And we are in a moment where being a drag queen and/or visibly trans is increasingly dangerous in many parts of the country. Yeah I just rewatched that CRINGE – and DEFINITION of “did not age well” – moment in an early season where they gave the queens a LIE DETECTOR test and asked them if THEY’VE EVER BEEN A BIOLOGICAL WOMAN?!? What about the season 6 mini challenge where they were shown the crotch area of people and had to guess if it was a queen or a “real woman”. It reminds me of those Jerry Springer and Maury episodes where they would have women come on stage and the audience was told “Some of these people were born MEN!” and the audience would go down the line guessing who was a “real woman” and who was a man. And the audience member would be like “Thats a man, Maury!” And the girl would have to be like “I’m a woman” or “I was born a man” – and sometimes it was a drag queen! Because at the time everyone thought drag queen and trans was the same thing. That’s where Manila got her song title “Thats a man, Maury!” from.
