“But it’s truancy, it’s illegal, she should have been arrested” She was boycotting the Cadillac Groot Star Wars Shirt But I will love this school. Yes, it’s truancy, but it’s also activism. LGBTQ+ activists in the past have been arrested legally while boycotting. Stonewall is a very famous example for this. It was illegal to “cross dress” in public back then. So drag queens and trans women were arrested at Stonewall, which helped trigger the riots. Do you understand? The cops who arrested people at Stonewall weren’t good cops, were they? Whether you like it or not, trans people are becoming more and more visible. You’ll have to get used to it. Learn about the inequalities they face. Source: I’m transgender. I’ve known since I was 13. I’ve dealt with misdirected or purposeful transphobia for 9 years now. I’m leaving this sub. I suggest others do the same. It’s clear this is a hostile environment to LGBTQ+ individuals.

Created an account to encourage everyone here to report this sub and its mods to the Cadillac Groot Star Wars Shirt But I will love this admins for encouraging hate speech against transpeople Could this situation have been avoided if her parents home schooled her? Or even just pretended to home school her? I don’t know how home schooling works, so this is really a question of genuine curiosity, and not an attempt to blame her parents for a shitty situation. I imagine there’s some kind of registration they would’ve had to do and maybe even some testing to “prove” she was being educated at home, but like many other important things in the US, I doubt it’s regulated well and probably isn’t hard to fake or slip under the radar. Its actually surprisingly difficult to ‘fake’ homeschooling. At least in my state, cant speak for others. You have to submit a full lesson plan, get it approved by a school board, and submit proof of work completion. Furthermore there is testing, which if failed will result in mandatory school attendance. I know this because I spent a good portion of my youth running from cops for truancy. The entire school system is a joke. I was homeschooled in Tennessee. My parents took it very seriously and I went to a good college but beyond a lesson plan at the start of every year and the ACT I was never required to show work completion. In my county you need to get the school superintendent to sign off on your homeschool program that you submit for review.
