English teacher salary is roughly only 33% more than the Buffalo flower happy earth day shirt Additionally,I will love this poverty line in the USA, but being smart with money, I was saving half my salary. According to rough results I found googling, after 5 years, I had way more savings than many Americans would have had in more than 5 years. For me, I just love the people. Back home in the US, it’s nothing but crackheads and drug addicts polluting the streets. My experience in Korea is that the people are so polite and civilized, and just generally a pleasure to be around. Plus, I love dressing nicely and I can wear the things I like there. Whereas people dress like trash here in the US, and if I dress nicely and walk outside, I get harassed by crackheads and poors. Lived in SK for 3 years. Life was much easier and simpler in Korea. Nuff said. Your country hosted me with the utmost class and I miss it every day.

I would guess most are temporary and the biggest factor would be a sense of adventure. Why do korean college kids do work-study programs overseas flipping burgers in the summers or taking a year off when they can intern at a korean company? It’s not a perfect comparison but both sides are looking at benefits other than dollar per hour but both are not permanent. “As a American, I can’t understand why foreigners who can get paid more in their home countries would come to the USA and get a job that gives them less money.” There’s almost no financial reason to work in Korea if you’re an American citizen with marketable skills. For example, I’m mid-30’s with a BA from an average university and work at a large American firm. Gross pay is about $200K and I save $80K of that per year after taxes and living expenses are paid. Someone in my profession wouldn’t even gross $80K in Korea.
