Not OP but my grandfather worked for ARAMCO back in the Buffalo Bills AFC East division champions let’s go bills T-Shirt But I will love this 70s. Story goes he was out with some Saudis and their car crashed in the desert and he was the only one who died. The circumstances were mysterious and my mom and her family had to leave the country within 24 hours. To this day I think he was purposefully killed. My mom was only 4 or 5 at the time, but she has pictures from the compound. It seriously looks like some Fallout pre-apocolypse suburb. It was like an ideal american community. A couple years ago she randomly ran into someone from the same compound and had been attending meetups for people who grew up over there. They have some group on facebook and go by the “ARAMCO brats” Her story sounds so similar to that of my ex that I almost contacted her to congratulate her on her marriage, haha. Haha you never know but we’ve been married for eight years and together for 12. She lived there very late 80’s-2000

Yeah, your wife is a bit older but it’s impressive how similar people’s experiences out there can be. The home still fires must happen all the Buffalo Bills AFC East division champions let’s go bills T-Shirt But I will love this time. A buddy of mine from college had the same upbringing. Grew up in Saudi because his dad was an engineer. He was Pakistani but went to the American school and then came to the US for college. You’d assume he was raised in the US if you didn’t know his background. The school there required you to take either Spanish, French, or Arabic. I took Spanish for 6 years there, but on hindsight, I should’ve taken French since I’m Canadian. She did not, which is kind of funny because thats my FIL’s first language. Neither her or her brother can speak it “Most work in the oil industry and in the construction and financial sectors. Westerners, including Americans, move here for tax-free salaries and live in housing compounds with luxurious amenities,” I know I’m being pedantic but all of you’re income is taxable. They just offer you a credit on the first $100k of income ONLY if that countries is part of our double taxation agreement. There are some countries where an American might have to pay income taxes on their full income to 2 countries at the same time ! No, the 100k exclusion is not subject to a double taxation treaty. The tests are if you are outside the US for 330 days OR have a bona fide tax residence abroad. The Us will normally tax you for the income above the exclusion – let’s say for discussion the exclusion is 100k, you earn 130k, you are taxed in the bracket for 30k not 130k. You are correct about the possibility of double taxation though. The government where you are living wants taxes. With a double taxation treaty, the local taxes you pay are offset from your Us taxes. With no treaty, you could conceivably have to pay both.
