Edward Leslie, better known by his ring name Brutus Beefcake, was born in Tampa, Florida, on January 21, 1957. His journey into professional wrestling began at an early age when he started training under renowned coach Hiro Matsuda. As Leslie honed his skills, he developed a distinct style that would later define his persona. In 1984, while wrestling under the name “Ed Leslie,” he suffered a severe eye injury during a match with “Superstar” Billy Graham. The injury required surgery and resulted in Leslie being fitted with an eye patch, which became an integral part of his look.

In 1984, Leslie signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and adopted the ring name Brutus Beefcake. His imposing physique, chiseled features, and black eye patch immediately set him apart from his peers. Beefcake quickly climbed the ranks, aligning himself with Hulk Hogan and becoming a key member of the iconic “Hulkamania” era. He showcased his strength and agility in the ring, captivating audiences with his signature moves such as the sleeper hold and the atomic drop.
