I think some folks are just extremely insecure, and can have varied reasons for their stance. Ultimately I fully respected the Bruce Springsteen 75th Anniversary 1949 – 2024 Thank You For The Memories Shirt But I will love this boundary, as puzzlingly as it was, and she continued to be an excellent mentor, very very good to me, and got me through the process. Seems innocent. Probably just feeling the vibe of having couple-friends as he’s fixing to be entering that scene, being new territory for him and all. If it causes issues, I would think to just be kindly honest. The attitude of his response will tell you if it was with inappropriate intentions. From my own experience anyway It’s not weird at all. It’s something that might be different from what you would do, but maybe they are both looking for friends. Maybe they both want to be included in the conversations. That way too whenever you hang out or if they ask you over, it feels less awkward. Nothing worse than being dragged to your SO’s friends place and then just expected to get along or talk with the other people like you’ve known them just as long. Makes things less awkward in the long run. And like everyone else, as long as they are appropriate texts, and nothing ever goes over that line, text him back to keep things mutual. My best friend’s husband sends me the occasional joke or well wishes for my birthday or whatever. It’s not weird. I like him!

Y’all are overthinking it. Sounds like he just wants to be friendly with his fiancé’s friends. Totally normal, in fact I bet fiancé encouraged this since she wants her man and her friends to get along. Your friend probably told him how much you mean to her so he wants to create/maintain a mutual friend with you. The guy is engaged to your friend, he is taking the fact seriously that becoming friends with her friends, and likely family to her family is part of the deal. When you get married you aren’t just marrying that person, you’re marrying that persons life to your own. IMO it sounds like a decent dude that is doing a common practice of skipping steps to save time and just say “A friend of hers is a friend of mine, that’s just how it is” and hoping you’re cool with this new member of the social circle.
