But things have changed so quickly and we can’t keep up. Our intergenerational learning system is completely fucked up, with older generations trying to teach us how to live in a world that doesn’t exist. I broke the Booker T. Washington The Happiest People Are Those Who Do The Most Others T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this food cycle. That one was easy for me since I had such an unhealthy relationship with food from being forced to finish meals and not “waste” food. But the damn hoarding of tissue paper from presents and gift bags and wrapping paper and bows is a nightmare for me. When my great grandparents were alive, we had to be so careful not to rip the paper Christmas morning so we could reuse it. Now, every year, my heart skips watching my daughter dive into her gifts, ripping the paper to shreds. I was raised this way. One time I refused to eat chicken noodle soup made with coconut milk & milk powder. I was made to sit at the table until bedtime. Next morning my mom tried to make me eat it for breakfast. Then for supper, etc until it went bad. I lost 5 pounds that week, but refused to eat it.

So I got yelled at and said there’s starving kids in Africa bit Then one day I threw up all the food I was forced to eat and then from there every one is like oh just don’t eat a lot. Eat what you can So I actually have a decent amount of experience with this topic and how it relates to the obesity epidemic we are experiencing in America. I went to school for Culinary Nutrition and this is something my class would discuss at length. It was my chefs believe that this problem is actually the 2nd biggest cause of obesity and weight problems in children. From an early age, we are taught to ignore our bodies signs that we are full and aren’t hungry anymore. Our bodies are very good at signaling that we no longer need anymore calories, from feeling full and bloated, to stomach problems, and just your brain itself signaling it is full, our bodies will let us know.
