So you don’t freeze If a train is sitting at a station for a long time the doors will be closed and the open button will be required to open the doors. This isn’t the case for the jubilee line train pictured. The buttons are completely defunct in passenger service Also how do drivers clear the train at the end of the day? Do they not close all the doors and walk the length? If so, how do they let a passenger off if they find one asleep half way down? They are used on S-Stock trains though. I used to take the train from Uxbridge and the doors there automatically close when the trains are sitting at the platforms. It makes a noticeable difference by keeping the climate in the carriages at the right temperature when it’s warm / cold outside. Which is important if you have to sit there for any appreciable time waiting for the train to leave. Maybe even saves them some money? The buttons on the jubilee line are defunct, it was found to be quicker to have the driver only operate the doors than letting the passengers operate them.

All jubilee line trains should have had a refurb and those buttons have (in theory) now been removed and replaced with a flashing door closing indicator.
