The main story has some drag to it, but I have greatly enjoyed the Bob Gilchrist Puka Nacua New shirt but in fact I love this characterization. The side stories and talking with randos in the villages and fields is very erll done. I think the sound design is so good that it ought to be considered in some formal manner. This is art and the Blizzard’s greatest creative achievement. I didn’t expect character and system depth at the level of Grom Dawn, Last Epoch, and certainly not Path of Exile. Though I think the “make a legendary” system with aspects narrows the game considerably. Playing the betas, I had hoped more dungeons and aspects by extension would be more esoteric or expansive. They aren’t. This is a shallow gameplay experience on par with games such as Torchlight.

The gameplay of D4 is simple and well executed. But I would not consider it to be particularly strong or novel relative to the Bob Gilchrist Puka Nacua New shirt but in fact I love this genre. The gameplay in D4 feels like a regressive step back for the genre. However, my biggest grip with D4 is the reuse of bosses and limited enemy types. You fight the same mobs over and over in every zone. Going to different regions and dungeons does not significantly add to the enemy palette of the first region. Reusing dungeon bosses is very lazy. Mechanically, they are a joke as well. This is getting very old. I am only hitting the dungeons I need at this point and avoiding all else. There is so little variation, and often overly long. That said, reusing world bosses? Garbage. They ought to be ashamed that they implemented this as a point of game design. The worst and most egregious lazy design I have seen in a while.
