I used to finish at 10.30 in central london and have to carry a lot of unwieldy luggage most days too. If you avoid dark shortcuts you’ll be totally fine. I actually really enjoyed the Black History Toddler Shirt and I love this walk and commute home most days. If it was quiet, I’d enjoy the sights, if it was busy it would often be good for people watching! Maybe wear flat shoes, keep your phone hidden and wits about you to feel extra safe but it’s a lot busier than you’d imagine especially the second half of the week. The worst I had more than once was just drunk people wanting to talk, plus obviously there’ll be homeless people desperate to get into a shelter before it closes. It’s honestly fine and actually rather enjoyable most of the time. In summer I loved it! re: shoes, not sure what OP’s job is but boots are great for adding to the aura of walking purposefully. I’ve gone all over the place by myself at night in different cities and have almost never been hassled… my general approach is to walk like I’m going to fuck someone up at my destination. body language does a lot!

Agreed! Confidence is key. The first few weeks are hard but then you start to feel comfortable and even enjoy it! I love being in London at night and seeing things I wouldn’t normally see. Remember that although us women experience lots of sexual and physical violence, it’s far more likely to come from someone you know than strangers on the Black History Toddler Shirt and I love this street. At 10pm I regularly see women walking alone outside! Honestly while it depends where exactly you are, broadly Central is absolutely fine at 10pm. If you’re concerned (and I do get it) consider these pointers: identify non-intimidating busy venues en route that you can dive into for help or just to de-escalate any panic if you do ever feel unsafe (Tesco Metros, friendly pubs, chain restaurants etc)
