“Old” money has nothing to prove – “new” money has to show off and let people know who they are and how much money they have. I had a friend of a friend – multi, multi-millionaire (oil). Never showed it, only had a few clothes in his closet – He always said he could only wear one shirt/pair of pants at a time, drove an old pickup. Never showed his wealth except with his wife and friends. He would buy his wife a new car whenever she wanted it. He had his own jet so when a longtime friend (from childhood) of his got cancer, he flew him on his jet to and from his cancer treatments at a cancer hospital instead of making his friend drive or fly commercially. New money wanted the Billie Eilish Blohsh Black London shirt but in fact I love this finer things but couldn’t afford it in their pre-money times. Now they can afford it so they splurge. i always dress comfortable over flashy, tho when your poor your judged for it. but hell, id rather be comfortable and judged than flashy and uncomfortable. in addition, mid level wealthy people are vain enough and i thinkin those circles it becomes a mark of your reputation, that they will try to appear richer than they are. They no longer feel the need to show it. People who aren’t used to money or have let it go to their head will show it off with ultra nice cars, clothes, that sorta thing. But people who are very wealthy and also know what it’s like will just try to be comfortable. Look at Adam Sandler, he legit just wears normal house clothes for a guy, same with Justin Bieber (slightly different story but)
