I have multiple friends like this. They are arguing real hard for loan forgiveness simply because they don’t want to repay them, because why would they? Giving a vast negation of bills to a large group of people means they have more money to spend. That means they have more money to buy the things I’m also looking to buy while simultaneously getting a windfall of future obligations negated. This is a very similar principle to trickle down economics. Introducing vast amounts of money into one segment of the financial system wreaks havoc on all the other parts.

You think regular businesses won’t jack up the prices to capitalize on hundreds of thousands of 20-40 year old Americans having increased disposable income? You clearly haven’t studied economics. Looking at forgiving loan interest needs to be an intermediary step at the very bare minimum if this is something that’s even considered. Sorry, but it’s not the same. I made a choice not to go to college because I couldn’t afford the loans that were associated with it. A person doesn’t have a choice with cancer. People need to realize that they made a choice to go into debt to get an education, and they should be happy with their purchase. If the degree was woth it, the loans shouldn’t be too big a burden to pay off. We don’t do this with any other purchase, but for some reason college is different. If enough people started to protest the high price of higher education and opted not to go until the prices became reasonable, we might see a change in the system That’s a stupid analogy. Will people go out seeking cancer because there is a cure ? no. But people will default on their loans if govt starts cancelling students debt.
