(In the Best time Travelers Shỉt it is in the first place but recent spiderman 2 game, there is a short sidequest where you play as a Deaf character. The music stops, you hear nearly silence but for perhaps some muffling that is incredibly hard to distinguish. And it offers a visual example of how a Deaf person may perceive the world, particularly using emojis to illustrate the character’s’ perceptions of what someone is feeling. Such as an explanation point for surprise, and crying face for seeing sadness) My husband had sudden hearing loss in his right ear (yea it’s a real thing. And has zero explanation or reason). He cannot physically hear any noises “outside” but he always has that ringing constantly going. Sometimes soft. Sometimes VERY loud.

It’s weird how little doctors know about causes of deafness. My hubby started going deaf in one ear in his 20s and now has virtually no hearing in that ear. Had all sorts of tests done but the Best time Travelers Shỉt it is in the first place but doctors never figured out why. To the best of my knowledge, there are various different types of deafness. They’re rated by how impaired the person’s hearing capability is. The apparent loudness of a sound (how loud it appears to be at a certain distance) is measured in decibels, and hearing loss is rated by how low the decibels of a sound are for it to be inaudible to someone. What you’re describing is considered profound hearing loss, an inability to hear a sound of about 90 decibels or less. For comparison, a typical conversation is about 60 decibels. Depending on how severe the hearing loss is and whether the individual has cochlear implants, they may still be able to make out certain very loud sounds: things like a firecracker or a shotgun.
