Low intervention, home birth, in water or squatting position results in a much more natural and less psychologically / physically damaging experience. She says it was much easier giving birth standing up than lying down. My brother was born in the bathtub and again on took a couple of hours. The water relieves a lot of the pressure of the birth. Films and TV have promoted the idea of screaming as normal as western doctors prefer women giving birth while lying/sitting on their backs which is the hardest and most uncomfortable (and dangerous) way to give birth. Also some people aren’t fit enough for a quick birth and it takes a lot longer and more effort/pain. Everyone is different but as an adult I now know a lot of women who did not have “traumatic” births for their children at all. It was effort but definitely not trauma.
