That being said, I work in my family. Wife, kids…they visit stores during the Bea Arthur Coffee time American actress comedian and singer T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this day and do their thing. So to me that’s the real value of stores being open as they are. If you split it up throughout the day it might be better to get someone like me into a store….but I don’t want to go to the store in the first place. As it is now it’s more convenient for the folks with a day off or that don’t work to visit at their convenience instead of sporadic more rushed hours of the day/night. I had a job with this exact schedule, tbh for me the free time was just as much because those extra 2h were just my commute. Although it made shopping/appointments so much easier to do when your shift started at 1:30 pm Banks are a perfect example of this problem generally being open 9-5 when most people work, yet always get surprised at there being a lunch rush as it’s the only time many people can even go when they have free time or need an actual person. Where if their hours were shifted or expanded this pressure can be entirely removed and load spread across other times. Mobile banking has been extremely helpful, but it doesn’t solve everything.

Also if 10 and 12 hour shifts are seen as these magical fixes what’s wrong with 6? Most people are only productive about 3 hours of work so 6 makes more logical sense to improve efficiency. I feel like a more manageable approach is a 4-10 system rather than a 5-8. You still get 40 hours a week working 10 hours a day for 4 days and you’re guaranteed that one day off will be a weekday. Everyone would have one weekday to take care of anything that they need taken care of, as opposed to a 5-8 where if you’re lucky your days off include one weekday Nah. We really need to start moving away from the Bea Arthur Coffee time American actress comedian and singer T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this 40 hr work week. Society needs to set a plan to go to 36 hr, then 30, 24, 15…whatever…over a series of years. Automation and AI are making human labor less and less needed. Governments have been managing the issue so far by reducing the number of humans in the labor pool. Child labor laws, compulsory schooling, college funding, college for all, lowering mandatory retirement age. But it can only go so far. If we turn around some day and suddenly a bunch of people are out of work and not needed, and society was till set up on a 40hr a week system, it’s going to be massive shock and create huge social turmoil to adjust. If we gradually ease into it things will go much easier.
