I hate hearing all these horrible stories. I booked a unit last May for 3 months in Mexico. For the Bardstown high school alumni tigers shirt But I will love this first time in 35 stays, I had booked a place that was nothing like the pictures or description. It was horrid. With bugs. Airbnb couldn’t recommend another place because of the bugs, BUT they gave me a full refund and a 10% credit of the cost, to the tune of over $500. Luckily, I was able to find another long term rental outside of Airbnb, and last month, I spent 2 glorious girls nights in a really cool Airbnb in an awesome city. For FREE. We were traveling in mountains over the holiday weekend and we saw so many “No Vacancy” signs on hotels. It was difficult finding places and there was very little available on Airbnb that wasn’t cost prohibitive.

Yeah, then you don’t get to go or you need to save more and budget. There’s a lot of traveler entitlement that consumers think they should be able to have luxury accoms with kitchens and it be affordable without realizing for decades, this is how travel worked. It’s like there is some weird ass collective amnesia. It wasn’t normal to be able to travel like this for every single occasion. Traveling for a whole month? That’s hellllla fucking privileged. Getting to book a shore house or cabin was often through local timeshare/property managers. People often lose on owning vacation rentals and kept them only because they either inherited with it or deeply loved the Bardstown high school alumni tigers shirt But I will love this place and used it frequently. Airbnb is part of the “Millennial Lifestyle Subsidy” where none of these things were ever actually affordable to the middle class, but these “tech companies” used subsidies from investor dollars to get people hooked on the idea, with the intent to make money by either raising the price (ubers are far more expensive than cabs now in many places) or by selling data (social media companies) or slowly raising fees (Airbnb, food ordering apps.)
