I’ve also been a Sony fanboy in the past before trying Sennheiser and honestly earlier Sony was good too. Of course, Sennheiser has always been a better brand overall; the fact that out of all the major premium brands they’re one of the very few to offer 2 years warranty tells how confident they are about their stuff. I’ve had 2K 3K Wired Earphones from Sony and WF 1000XM3 which had battery issues which I somehow resolved on my own and the battery life sucks that I’ve just decided to stay away from TWS.

Main issue was audio quality was lacklustre coming from HD598SE > Sony Wired Earphones > WF 1000XM3 > WH 1000XM5. The last two might be reversed but more or less not worth 20K+. And the noise cancellation wasn’t impressive compared to the earbuds ( XM3 ) because the pads couldn’t get a good seal. And the worst was I started sweating around the pads in a few minutes. That’s when I said fuck this shit and returned it ASAP. OP, try everything and don’t give up. Make them repair the damn thing and don’t buy expensive stuff from Sony again. It’s weird but their cheaper stuff are more value for money TBH.

Also, many electronics especially phones have liquid contact indicators. Basically a small white dot of absorbent material that turns pink / red when it becomes wet. Even if you dry it back it stays pink / red. Check if that’s there in XM5 ( find tear down videos on YouTube to see if there’s one on the XM5 ). If that’s the case and yours has detected water/moisture; these assholes might reject again. Related story, last year my 45K LG Monitor got water damaged apparently. Maid wiped it with moist cloth. But, LG guys let it slide and replaced the panel but warned me to be careful next time.
