I’ll never understand how this issue causes people to go into pure black and white, binary thinking. Where people get paid better and more evenly for the value we all add to society, and the work doesn’t have to physically or mentally wear people down so much? Like people treat the 40 work week as if it’s a law of the universe or something and not a concession that a lot of workers died for. Not to even get into other atrocious work conditions people have to suffer through. Just because that’s the way it works now doesn’t mean it always has to be that way. It’s just so disheartening how many people seem to think it’s wrong to want the world to be a better place or to want a future where everyone’s life is easier and more fair.

The meme is definitely exaggerating and being a little dramatic, but you have to be either completely cynical or oblivious to think it’s motivated entirely by laziness and ungratefulness. People are overworked. People are underpaid. And it’s very hard to argue that the current system is “fair” to most workers at all. I literally only hear this type of complaint from people who have no one to blame but themselves for their failure to climb the meritocracy. I’ve worked in government, private, hard work, and desk jobs. I have always immediately began getting promoted and climbing the ladder. The people I see making these complaints can’t cut it cause of themselves, literally showing up to work on time and not requiring babysitting is enough to get promoted in a lot of places. They are desperate for decent employees.
