Employers are flat out getting greedy now that all that Covid money dried up and they can’t post record profits anymore. They’re all still making a lot of money but hey why accept decent profits that’s for suckers. I’m staying to believe the Baby Yoda I’m Multitasking I Can Listen Ignore And Forget At The Same Time Shirt But I will love this theories/conspiracies that companies are just advertising positions without actually hiring in order to avoid having to repay their covid loans (in the US anyway). I have a somewhat similar conspiracy theory where job postings on job sites have more fake job postings thanks we all realize and companies are just posting jobs for fun as they aren’t really hiring. I feel like it’s less for fun and more to get kickbacks in one way or another. For example, if they report to their shareholders that they’re actively recruiting, they’re likely to get more investment. If the business is perceived as having revenue to hire, that means they’re profitable. A big one in tech is so they can claim there aren’t enough workers and pay an Indian 40k to do 120k worth of work.
